Shot of the Week: Love and Traffic in Los Angeles

Ian and I have set forth on a new photo challenge for the new year — a 365 project — with the goal of taking one photo each day for a year. And guess what that means for our shot of the week post series… This year it’ll be even better!

Our first choice is actually not one photo, but two. It’s a combination of a long exposure image of the 118 freeway at night in L.A. and a silhouette image of the two of us just before sunset on the Rocky Peak Trail in Simi Valley.

Both photos were taken with the Sony a7s and Sony 55mm f/1.8, and we combined the two using Adobe Photoshop. Want to learn this photo technique? Ian will soon be posting a tutorial on our new creative photography website, The Photon Collective, launching next month!

I hope you enjoyed this shot of the week and you’re loving the new year as much as we are!  Check back next week or subscribe on the right for more photos and videos from our travels.

This post was handcrafted for you during our travels in Reno, Nevada.

  1. Diana that shot is incredibly creative! I dig the meld for sure.

I also dig your idea of a photo per day.

I literally have thousands of photos in my cue/on my laptop hard drive. I need to bring these to market. Or I plain need to share them on social sites.

I’ve share a bunch through my blog but have hundreds of Fiji pictures alone which the world needs to see.

You planted a neat idea seed in my mind.

    Appreciate it 😉

    1. Thanks Ryan. Ian and I had a lot of fun planning and shooting for this image. We’re really happy with how it turned out (and it was actually really easy)!

I definitely understand having a plethora of photography backed up. I currently have a ton of project and post ideas that I’ve already shot photos for, but the projects and posts haven’t happened yet… so I’ve got lots of photos I plan to use “soon.” The 365 project is helping with that, since the whole idea is that you actually have to post the photo you take that day. It helps keep us focused as photographers.

Let us know when you post your Fiji photos. I’d love to see them! (Ian’s been there already, but it’s still on my list.) I hear it’s an amazing place.

And should you decide to embark on a photo-a-day journey, good luck and have fun. 🙂 Thanks for reading.
